Summertime is now in full swing and we hope you are enjoying it! However, with summer, comes more beaches, pools, and outdoor adventures. We all know that means more chances for your precious smartphone to get damaged. Whether that is water damage from the pool, beach, or bathtub, you should be aware of the ways to not only treat but prevent a damaged phone in the first place.
With each new phone model coming out every year, more and more are pushing water resistant promotions, even featuring the phone splashing in the water in some of the commercials. The thing to remember here is that the phones are meant to be water RESISTANT and not waterPROOF. The difference applies to most cases as well.
If water happens to get in through cracks or through the speakers, your phone can and will experience water damage. We highly recommend not to swim with your phone or take selfies underwater (even though those are fun) if you want to preserve your phone for years to come.
If you did happen to drop your phone in the water, the best thing to do is turn it off and to never turn it on it while it is still wet. Contrary to popular belief, placing your smartphone in rice to dry out is actually a myth. While rice is great at absorbing moisture, it isn't effective at pulling moisture out of tiny parts within your smartphone. Your best bet is to work with a company who has a moisture removal box which will effectively eliminate all moisture over a span of time.
Bring your phone into iCity Repair, and for only $20 we will disassemble your phone and require it to sit in our moisture removal box for 24 hours. From here, typically this will allow any water that is in the phone to be removed. As long as nothing else is damaged, a light cleaning will repair your phone for you.
In some circumstances, the water will have damaged your phone to a point of no return. This can happen if the phone was submerged in water for a lengthy amount of time such as on the bottom of the pool or in the ocean. Since every smartphone is essentially an advanced computer, moisture is the enemy and will begin corroding all parts immediately.
If you do find yourself in this situation, your phone will be toast. But do not worry! Your precious family photos and videos are not completely lost yet. If we cannot fix your device, we do have an option to mail your phone away to our data recovery specialist center who almost always can recover your photos. This is often priceless and can give you peace of mind back (especially if your babies first steps are on there!)
We understand how important the memories you store on your devices are, so we will do whatever it takes to ensure you can keep them forever.
